Upgrades to Older Digesters

Hydrol-Pro has performed and will offer customized quotations on system upgrades of older digesters that have been in use for several years.

Heating/Cooling Upgrade features:

Improved reliability occurs by replacing existing heating cooling system with the BioMEER heating/cooling system that uses re-circulating oil in the walls of the digester vessel. Experience gained by servicing other manufacturers’ digesters has led Hydrol-Pro to design this system to minimize vessel failures caused by thermal shock of the older steam and cold water design. Only so many old-design cycles of steam inserted in the channels against the vessel wall and then replacing the hot steam with cold water to cool the vessel, are tolerated by the stainless steel of the pressure vessel. A crack can occur due to this thermal shock over time. This can be repaired, but only 2-3 times before it cannot be repaired further and then the vessel is trash and must be replaced. The BioMEER heating/cooling system upgrade avoids this thermal shock issue.

The other huge benefit of this upgrade is the alternative sources of energy possible. Over time as facilities expand an increased load can be put on the building steam source such that inadequate pressure (and therefore pounds, and therefore energy) of steam is available and the vessel cannot get up to its designed operating temperature of 302 deg F, needed to deactivate PRIONS. The BioMEER heating/cooling system upgrade allows electricity or natural as a source of heat energy OR a combination of the 3 sources (steam, electric and natural gas). The cooling source can also be improved by adding heat exchangers to utilize the buildings chilled water supply. Energy savings alone can justify the cost of this upgrade in as little as 5 years.

Controller Upgrade Features:

Another upgrade is the installation of the BioMEER advanced controller to automate the process further with new load cells, human control interface, and remote diagnostic capability. This minimizes operator error and ensures the process occurs according to plan. A full brochure with photos is available in the Products Section.

Other upgrades such as optimizing consumption of chemicals and process times on WR2 digesters are available.

Training on operation and maintenance of WR2 or BioMEER Tissue Digesters or BioMEER BEDS systems are available.

Service and Support by Hydrol-Pro Technologies.

All new systems are sold with a minimum two-year full support warranty including preventive maintenance and emergency field service visits as needed. Key spare parts are stocked on the customers’ site to minimize downtime. All systems have remote diagnostic interfaces to permit trouble-shooting from a distance. Cost effective extended warranties and service plans are available. Hydrol-Pro additionally can perform service on WR2 digesters on a contract basis or on an emergency basis. Hydrol-Pro service techs have been working on WR2 digesters since 2002.
